Three Additional Uses for GPS Systems

Most individuals believe that the only benefit a GPS has for the average individual is that it provides a safer way to get driving directions. However, aside from the convenient means to map navigation, there are more ways that GPS can help a person.

First, a GPS can help you find a missing child. There are few GPS devices on the market which are made for this purpose. Some look like watches worn on a child’s wrist while others look like mobile phones. Many of these gadgets even have panic buttons that let the child press a button when they are in a distressing situation, which sends a signal that they are in need of help. The signals emitted from these devices call the parent at a predetermined phone number and the parent will be informed of the child’s location. These devices can also be used by adults.

Additionally, you can find a lost pet using GPS by placing a tracking device on your pet’s collar. When your pet gets lost, you can find his whereabouts by using a mobile phone or a computer. Some software can even alert you whenever your pet has gone beyond the normal boundaries that you have chosen in advance. Furthermore, when you are in distress, you can call someone using your GPS-enabled phone, and your location can be tracked. This means that if you have a car breakdown in the middle of nowhere, you can simply call your service provider and have them track you down.
